Booey's: A Journey Home

The challenge

No Child Left Behind had put career and personality assessments in front of students who had no interest in filling them out. The instruments were legitimate — the experience of taking them wasn't, and disengaged students produce unreliable results.

The approach

Mike's own concept: Myers-Briggs meets Angry Birds. He developed it, then partnered with Simcoach Games to turn it into original IP — Booey's: A Journey Home, a game that assesses a student's actual strengths and psychometric profile through play instead of a form, and turns the result into real career-pathway recommendations. He drove the project from concept through a statewide implementation process.

The result

A psychometric instrument students would actually finish honestly, rolled out statewide as part of the workforce-pathway work that contributed to SCPA Works' record performance against state measures.
